News 24/09/15 : Simple Verse gets classic win on appeal.

After being given the race in the steward’s room Bondi Beach has been returned to his race finishing position of 2nd after the connections of the first past the post Simple Verse win their appeal.

In a messy sort of race Simple verse was pushed off the rails by her jockey Andrea Atzeni and then bumped the eventual second Bondai Beach.

In the stewards room afterwards both jockeys argued their point and as this was shown on live TV is was clear that the jockey of Bondi Beach gave a more convincing opinion of events when he (Colm O'Donoghue) gave his opinion that he was interfered with on two occasions in the race. The stewards on the day quite quickly overturned the finishing position giving Bondi Beach the race and demoting Simple verse to second place.

An appeal was launched and this decision was overturned.

At the appeal it was stated that “the panel had concluded that although the first incident had caused some loss of momentum but they were "not persuaded" that it improved the filly's finishing position. The second incident had "little or no effect".”

Simple Verse is the first British Classic winner to be disqualified and then reinstated.

Aiden O’Brien the trainer of bondai beach said "Some you win some you lose and that's racing. I think it's great for the connections of the mare. Colm [O'Donoghue] did his best to give the horse a perfect brilliant ride and conducted himself like the professional jockey he is. He has lost a Classic but has won others and will get more."
