Carlingford Lough retained his Irish Gold Cup crown.

Carlingford Lough retained his Irish Gold Cup crown today taking advantage of the final fence mistake of the favourite Valseur Lido who Ruby Walsh no chance of staying in the saddle.

He may not have got the same rousing welcome back as he did last year when he gave A.P.McCoy his win in the race last year but his rider Mark Walsh did everything right to see his charge home at the remarkable odds of 20/1.

The well thought of horse Carlingford Lough will now go on to take his place in the gold cup at the Cheltenham festival where last year he was not disgraced in the race finishing 9th after making a few mistakes along the way.

Perhaps this 4 times Grade 1 winner in Ireland can get closer this year.

Carlingford Lough also has an entry in this year’s Crabbies Grand National.
