Thistlecrack given the go ahead for King George VI at Kenpton.

Kempton Park

The owners of one of the most remarkable chasers in training, John and Heather Snook have taken the decision to run Thistlecrack in the king George at Kempton on boxing day.

It is a brave decision for them to run their horse who is still a novice and attempt to take on seasoned chasers in the best race at this time of year.

The quality of the horses jumping was the deciding factor in the decision as in his chase runs so far he has travelled and jumped well through his races.

Thistlecrack was last season's world hurdle winner at the Cheltenham festival so he has the cruising speed needed for championship races and his jumping so far has well surpassed any "normal" novices quality.

If he is to tackle the Gold Cup in March then he can't put off this challenge and if things don't quite go his way then he can revert to the novice route for the festival.

Much in expected by his fans, but he has to still take on his stablemate, and last year's winner Cue Card, who is in fine form around this time of year.

Looks to be a fine Post Christmas for the Colin Tizzard yard and indeed for all fans of jump racing.
