1000_Guineas An_English_Classic

The_Race

The 1000 Guineas is the second of the five English classic flat races for three year old thoroughbred horses.

The race is open to fillies only and is run in early May at Newmarket racecourse over the famous Rowley Mile.

Run at the same meeting as this classic race is the equivalent race for the colts which is called the 2000 Guineas which is actually open to both Colts and Fillies.

The race was first run in 1814 five years after the introduction of the equivalent race for both colts and fillies

The_2014_Race

A fine race in prospect today with some good horses taking part.

Rizeena leads the betting market and her form suggests that this trip will be no trouble for her but could show up shortcomings in other runners.

Tapestry looked unlucky on her last start and with luck in running could well win today.

French raider Miss France looks to take the trophy abroad today for her connections and has a good chance in the race.

RACE CONDITIONS: 3yo fillies Weights 9st

NO. DRAW FORM NAME AGE WEIGHT TRAINER JOCKEY

1 1 47-176 Alutiq 3 9-0 Eve Johnson Houghton DOUBTFUL

DOUBTFUL RUNNER
2 11 1- Betimes 3 9-0 John Gosden William Buick

A chestnut filly who has had only one run back in December where she won an all-weather the race over seven furlongs. Breeding on her sire side suggests she should get this distance but needs to improve considerably on that run. Something of an unknown quantity.

One win from 1 start over seven furlongs on all-weather standard going.

3 2 81-1 Bracelet 3 9-0 A P OŽBrien Ryan Moore

A Montjeu filly who should have a good chance in this race. Winner of the 1000 Guineas trial stakes, a group 3 at Leopardstown on 30 March. Comes here fit and ready to take her chance but is probably the stable's second string.

3 runs producing 2 wins both over seven furlongs on ground ranging from good through to soft to heavy.

4 12 1-12 Euro Charline 3 9-0 Marco Botti Adam Kirby

A nice filly whose wins have come on the all-weather surface. Was tried on 16th April in the group 3 Nell Gwyn stakes and was beaten into second position. Will need to improve on that performance to win this race.

2 wins from 3 starts both over seven furlongs on standard all-weather standard going.

5 2 113-11 Ihtimal 3 9-0 Saeed bin Suroor Silvestre De Sousa

A bay filly whose sire has won up to a distance of 11 furlongs. A well exposed winner of the Solara Sakes a group 3 for fillies at Newmarket on 10th August.
Two wins this season the first was the UAE 1000 Guineas and the second was the UAE Oaks both at Medan on the all-weather surface.
Although they are good runs she will need to improve still further to win this race today.

4 wins from 8 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to good to soft and up to a distance of 10 furlongs (also win form on standard).

6 17 1316-3 Joyeuse 3 9-0 Lady Cecil James Doyle

A bay filly whose sire had only one up to 6 furlongs, but has some stamina on her dam’s side.
Has run well but has not shown herself to be up to this class of race so far.

2 wins from 5 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to good to soft and up to a distance of six furlongs.

7 13 4112d3- Kiyoshi 3 9-0 Charles Hills DOUBTFUL
Doubtful starter

8 10 6431-4 Lady Lara 3 9-0 Alan Jarvis Kieren Fallon

Well exposed day filly whose sire was a winner over eight furlongs. Conditions stakes winner and was third in the group 3 Fred Darling stakes. Her form does not look good enough to win this race.

One win from 7 starts on soft ground over seven furlongs.

9 18 1365-4 Lamar 3 9-0 James Tate Luke Morris

A bay filly whose sire had one over eight furlongs.
Well exposed and most recently fourth in the Nell Gwyn stakes. Form up to now does not suggest she is anything like good enough to win this race.

One win from 6 starts on good ground over six furlongs.

10 14 1124- Lightning Thunder 3 9-0 Olly Stevens Harry Bentley

A bay filly whose sire had won up to a distance of six furlongs.
Fourth on final run of last season in October in the group 2 Rockfel Stakes. Will need to improve on past performances to win here today.

2 wins from 4 starts on ground ranging from good through to good to soft and at a distance of six furlongs.

11 15 11611- Lucky Kristale 3 9-0 George Margarson Tom Queally

A very smart filly whose sire had won up to 7 furlongs.
A winner of the group 2 Duchess of Cambridge stakes and also the group two Lowther Stakes.
This filly did not stop progressing last season and if she has trained on looks to have a really good chance in this race today.

4 wins from 5 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to good and up to a distance of six furlongs.

12 8 1291-3 Majeyda 3 9-0 Charlie Appleby Mickael Barzalona

A bay/brown filly whose sire had one up to 10 furlongs.
Most recently third in the Nell Gwyn stakes but does not look to have the class to win this today.

3 wins from 7 starts on ground ranging from good through to soft and up to the distance of 1 mile.

13 5 7302-5 Manderley 3 9-0 Richard Hannon Pat Dobbs

A grey filly whose sire had won up to 8 furlongs.
Has had six runs so far without winning. Looks well below this fields class so far, and would be a very surprise winner.

No wins from 6 starts.

14 4 911-6 Miss France 3 9-0 A Fabre Maxime Guyon

A really good French invader whose sire had one five times over 1 mile.
A winner of the "Oh so Sharp" group 3 stakes at Newmarket in September, and looks to be going the right way however on her last run on 3rd April she was very an impressive in a muddling race when she finished sixth. If you can forgive that run she should have a good chance today if she runs her race.

2 wins from 4 starts on ground ranging from good through to good to firm and up to a distance of eight furlongs.

15 16 19512- Princess Noor 3 9-0 Roger Varian Andrea Atzeni

Bay filly whose sire has won up to a distance of seven furlongs.
Winner of the group 3 Princess Margaret Judmont stakes at Ascot last July. She then went on to be second in the group one Cheveley Park stakes. Her bare form is in and out and she will have toimprove to win this race but is probably one of the best outsiders.

2 wins from 5 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to standard and up to a distance of six furlongs.

16 7 12312- Rizeena 3 9-0 Clive Brittain Richard Hughes

An impressive be filly whose sire had won up to 7 furlongs.
Progressed well last season and won the group 2 Queen Mary stakes at Ascot in June. She won the group one Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh. And was second in the group one Shadwell filly’s mile at this course on good to firm ground in September. She should get the trip, likes the ground but has not yet won in three tries at this course. Nevertheless a worthy favourite today.

4 wins from 8 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to good to soft and up to a distance of seven furlongs.

17 9 1217-1 Sandiva 3 9-0 Richard Fahey Frankie Dettori

Chestnut filly whose sire had one up to 8 furlongs.
Good progressive horse and winner of a group 3 at Deauville. She progressed well last season and her only poor run was on soft ground.
One run this season was a win in the Nell Gwyn stakes a group 3 at this course. Still has some to find but is improving and looks to have a good chance. She will also have Frankie Dettori in the saddle who gets on very well with her.

4 wins from 6 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to good and up to a distance of seven furlongs.

18 6 112- Tapestry 3 9-0 A P OŽBrien Joseph O'Brien

A nice be filly out of Galileo who had one up to 12 furlongs.
Good form last season or at the Curragh winning a group2 and was second in a group one to todays favourite Rezeena in a race where she did not get her own way. Could well turn the tables today.

2 wins from 3 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to good and up to a distance of seven furlongs.

19 19 1217-2 Vorda 3 9-0 P Sogorb Christophe-Patrice Lemaire

Bay filly whose sire had won up to a distance of six furlongs.
Well exposed three-year-old with seven runs under her belt, she was the winner of last season's Cheveley Park stakes a group one for fillies at this course over six furlongs. She went to America to try a breeders cup juvenile fillies race over today's distance and was outpaced in the race. A nice horse but may not get this distance.

4 wins from 7 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to good and up to a distance of six furlongs.
