The_2000_Guineas An_English_Classic

The_Race

The 2000 Guineas is the first of the five English classic flat races for three year old thoroughbred horses.

The 2000 guineas was so named so because the prize money for winning the race was 2000 Guineas.

The 2000 Guineas is the first leg of the traditional Triple Crown which is rated as the supreme test for thoroughbred colts which includes the Derby and the St Leger. The last horse to win the Triple Crown was Nijinsky in 1970.

The_2013_Race

A very interesting race this year with the very impressive Dawn Approach taking part in the race. This unbeaten colt from the Jim Bolger yard took the eye in his early runs and finished the season the best juvenile we had seen.

Toronado another unbeaten colt running in the race, sent here by Richard Hanon was very impressive in his opening run of the season.

Aidan O'Brian also has a few declared and the best of them looks to be Mars who looked special when winning well from the front in his maiden, albeit on the all weather.

Plenty of other hopefuls in the race and it looks to be a good renewal of this great race.

Correspondent

Winner of two races at a much lower level than this. Fourth of five in a Grade 3 at Newbury does not look good enough for this class of race.
Wins have come on all-weather tracks and at 7 furlongs.

Cristoforo Colombo

Third place in the Group 2 Coventry stakes at Ascot last season and was subsequently a beaten favourite on heavy ground in a Group 2 at the Curragh over six furlongs. Slipped up in one event over that distance on that course when he clipped heels of horse in front. Final race was at Newmarket in a Group 1 Middleton Park stakes where he finished and an impressive fourth. Not without a chance of making the frame.
Only win was at Navan on good ground over six furlongs.

Dawn Approach

Top-class unbeaten colt from the J. Bolger stable. Progressed exceptionally well as a two-year-old culminating in two Group 1 wins, the first at the Curragh over seven furlongs and then at Newmarket winning the Dewhurst again over seven furlongs. Always wins impressively and a worthy favourite if he trains on.
Wins of come on ground ranging from good through to good to soft and up to a distance of seven furlongs.

Don't Bother Me

Has only won once in seven races and that was a maiden suggests he has little chance in this race.
Only win at seven furlongs on good to soft.

Garswood

A nice horse who has winning form in listed races. One run so far this season winning very comfortably in the European Free Handicap listed race at Newmarket in April. Should improve for that race and comes here fit and well.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to heavy and up to a distance of seven furlongs.

George Vancouver

Second in a Group 1 at Deauville and third in last season’s Dewhurst. Sent to America and won the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf in good style in November at Santa Anita over 1 mile. Another with a good chance of making the frame.
Wins of come on ground ranging from firm through to soft and up to a distance of 1 mile.

Glory Awaits

1 win from eight starts, in a maiden and a fourth place in the Autumn Stakes (Group 3) does not look good enough form for this race.
Only when on good ground over seven furlongs in a maiden.

Kyllachy Rise

Two maiden runs without a win suggests there's nothing in this colt's form that indicates he can win this.

Leitir Mor

11 runs as a twol-year-old and whilst running well only one win in a Group 3 at the Curragh. 6th in a listed race is the only run this season and does not look good enough at this race.
Only win over six furlongs on good ground.

Mars

Only one run as a two-year-old but a very impressive winner. Could be anything and his position in the betting market suggests there's more to come. Despite only one run it would be foolish to write this horse off. Certainly one of the top half dozen in this race.
Only win on soft ground over seven furlongs.

Moohaajim

Progressive two-year-old season. Winner of the Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef stakes a Group 2 at Newbury. Will have to improve to take on some of these good colts if he is to take part in the finish.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good to firm through to good and up to a distance of six furlongs.

Toronado

Top class and unbeaten colt who progressed well last season culminating in a good win in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. Winner of this year's Craven stakes (Group 3) over 1 mile on good to firm ground at Newmarket proves his class and is one sure to be fighting out the finish.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good to firm through to good to soft and up to 1 mile.

Van Der Neer

Another good horse who progressed really well last season finishing second in a Group 1 at Doncaster over 1 mile. He is fit from a recent run in a listed race on the all-weather where he was a very easy winner easing down at the end of that one-mile race. Fit and well and could be one of the better outsiders.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good to firm through to soft and up to 1 mile.
