THE RACE

-----------------------------------

The 2000 Guineas is the first of the five English classic flat races for three year old thoroughbred horses.

The 2000 guineas was so named so because the prize money for winning the race was 2000 Guineas

The 2000 Guineas is the first leg of the traditional Triple Crown which is rated as the supreme test for thoroughbred colts which includes the Derby and the St Leger. The last horse to win the Triple Crown was Nijinsky in 1970.

THE 2020 RACE

-----------------------------------

Al Suhail Good colt on the improved trail. 2nd in Group 3 in October.

Arizona Top class colt and looks the best of the 4 Aiden O'Brien runners. Winner of the Group 2 Coventry Stakes last season.

Cepheus Won his maiden last August but suggests plenty to find.

Juan Elcano 3rd in Group 3 In September more needed here.

Kameko Group 1 Winner (All Weather) Good run expected.

Kenzai Warrior Unbeaten Group 3 Winner. Could be a player today.

Kinross Good Debut spoiled by next run when found problems in running. Will improve on that position.

Military March Unbeaten Group 3 Winner. Could be a special horse. Good chance.

Mums Tipple Goods first two runs then found lame after 3rd run. Improvement and good run expected.

New World Tapestry Ordinary form suggests not good enough (Pacemaker?)

Persuasion Good 2nd in Group 3 back in September behind Whichita. Improvement required.

Pinatubo Top class, unbeaten and worthy fav. Rated higher than Frankel was at this stage of career. Should win unless something goes wrong.

Royal Dornoch 2nd in the Group 2 Judmont gives some chance but perhaps 3rd String?

Starcat 1 Unbeaten but only one run. More unknown than the rest of the field.

Wichita Second O'Brien string. Has come in for support but this could be the Frankie Dettori factor. That said he is a Group 3 winner at this course and could be an upset. Sure to run well.

STEWARDS REPORT

-----------------------------------

MILITARY MARCH ran keenly to post and overshot the start. After being checked by the Veterinary Surgeon, the colt was deemed fit to race. The Starter reported that PINATUBO (IRE) was the subject of a third criteria failure. Charlie Appleby was informed that the colt could not run until the day after passing a stalls test. Oisin Murphy, the rider of the winner KAMEKO (USA) was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level from inside the final furlong. Following the race, Jason Watson reported that KENZAI WARRIOR (USA), unplaced, fly leapt and then stumbled shortly after the start. Sean Levey reported that MUMS TIPPLE (IRE), which finished last of the fifteen runners, hung left-handed and the representative of Richard Hannon reported that the colt was unsuited by the undulations of the track on this occasion.
