An interesting race in prospect today with the very smart chaser Silviniaco Conti trying to bounce back to his top form after a disappointing run in the King George at Christmas where he was pulled up. He is the highest rated horse in the race (although not by much). If on top form he will take some beating today. He has an entry in the World hurdle at the festival in a little over three weeks’ time.

Dynaste is another good chaser who is trying to restore his reputation today. He has not been in the top of his form for two seasons however his trainer reports that he comes here in good shape and on the back of a wind operation.

Ascot quite often favours some horses and not others. A course win is very much a positive and one who has won and runs well here is Royal Regatta from the in-form Phillip Hobbs team. A young horse who keeps on improving and would not be a surprise for him to run well here today.

Nicky Henderson sends two here today and the first is the smart Mare Ma Filleule. A good second in last season’s Ryanair at the festival shows her class. She comes here on the back of a good win at Doncaster just post-Christmas and also gets the Mares allowance in this race. His other horse is Triolo dAlene who missed half of last season but has had a good comeback win back in January. With entries in the Ryanair and the Gold Cup at the festival this race will set out the plan further. Another run in The Grand national would seem to be the season target however.

Paul Nicholls is also double handed in the race and along with Silviniaco Conti he also sends Vibrato Valtat **NON-RUNNER** to run in the race. He is another highly rated horse and has been running well all season.

The 11 year old Flemenstar is the Irish entry in the race. A few years back he was seen as a good thing putting in many winning performances in Ireland. He still retains much ability and with no entry at the festival this could be the season target for the horse although he is sure to take in the Punchestown festival later in the year.

The in-form stable of Dan Skelton runs Savello. He has seemed a bit on the wane of late and perhaps best watched today

Irish Cavalier **NON-RUNNER** a young horse who was 5th in the Paddy Power in November. Might be better than his bare rating however a pulled up last time out is a bit of a worry.

Another young improver Amore Alato takes his chance. Could be anything but may not be up to this class (yet).

A really great race today with the conditions turning the race into a real test of stamina and ability.
The winner Silviniaco Conti bouncing back to form after a slight wind op and also blinkers being fitted. He was good throughout the race and ran prominently. His jumping on the whole was very good and he also looked cleaver at a couple of fences. He broke away from the pack and won by 20 lengths. This was an impressive performance.
He has an entry in the World Hurdle at the festival but Paul Nicholls stated today that he will not go to the festival. He also has an entry in the Grand National where he will carry 11st 8lbs. This is plenty of weight for the horse but he is a real out-and-out chaser and looks like he could be calling out for this race.
Second placed Dynaste ran well today but was always very workmanlike in his running. He took 2nd place on the run in and passed a very tired Royal Regatta. He did however finish his race today even though he had no chance with the winner. He has an entry in the Ryanair chase at the festival and this may well have put him spot on for the race.
Royal Regatta ran a really good race today. He was the leader for a long way but paid the price of the conditions and got very tired in the closing stages. He probably ran up to his rating today and has an entry in the Ryanair at the festival. Possibly the slightly better ground there may suit if this race has not taken too much out of him.
Amore Alato ran well enough and improved on his past form. Although no chance today he finished as good as could be expected. He is in the JLT novices at the festival.
Triolo D'Alene had no chance today and was always behind. A good run was hoped for as his is quite fancied for the Grand National. As a past Hennessey winner this was not his form and he is better than this run. He is in the Ryanair but the National is his main target. Best not to judge this horse on this run and just move on.
Fleminstar finished last but at around 100 lengths behind the winner. His run was disappointing today on ground that should have suited him.
Savello was very keen early on and did not settle. He was pulled up and this was also the fate of Ma Filleule who was very disappointing today. She has an entry in the Ryanair at the festival and this run will have done nothing to enhance her chances.
