THE 2020 RACE

-----------------------------------

Yala Enki. A good long-distance chaser who is a sound jumper trying the Aintree fences for the first time. Highest rated and a respectful chance.

Jett. First of the Irish raiders. Improving sort and sent over from the great Irish trainers yard of Jessica Harrington who does not send no-hopers over here. Not one to be easily dismissed.

Aso. Good chaser who likes easy going. Has not won over a distance greater than 2m 4 1/2F and tends to run out of steam over 3 miles in the past. A little older now and another with a chance at the weights.

Ramses De Teillee Really good horse who ran well for a good while in the 2019 Grand national before his rein snapped. Great win last time out at Cheltenham's November meeting. Looks like a lively contender.

Kimberlite Candy. Lovely young chaser. Second in this last year and in with a good shout despite going up in the ratings. First run of the season (As was last years run) other than that nothing not to like.

Minellacebration. A long way behind in last years race (10th). has improved however since then. More improvement needed but possible.

Walk in the Mill. Twice the winner of this race (2019 2020). Poor run last time out at Ascot but always improves for first run. It would not be any surprise if he makes his hat-trick here today.

Give me a Copper. Trainer states NON-RUNNER

Calett Mad. Good consistent sort who has been off the track for 693 days. Like sodt ground.

Smooth Stepper. Tends to hit a few on the way round and that is a worry but although these fences are big horses can get through the top. A clear run would give him a chance but there's some risk hence the big price.

Le Breuil. Ran well to finish 7th in last years race in a below-par season. Got outpaced at Kelso last time out. Should be fitter today and a fair bit lower in the ratings this year. A return to form would give him a great chance.

Vieux Lion Rouge. Previous winner and running for 5th time in the race. He won't be disgraced but may find it tough to win.

Joe Farrell. Great long distance chaser but had not won for some time now (2018). Ran well for a long time in the 2019 Grand national. Pulled up last time out is a worry but could be the dark horse off a low weight.

Coo Star Sivola. Has class as Festival (Ultima) win showed. He does not however look the force of old. A return to that form puts him well in here.

Calipso Collonges. Fair past form but improvement needed.

STEWARDS REPORT

-----------------------------------

Permission was given for CALETT MAD (FR) to go early to post and RAMSES DE TEILLEE (FR) wore earplugs.

Ben Poste, the rider of MINELLACELEBRATION (IRE) was unseated rounding the bend going out on the final circuit. After viewing recordings of the incident, the Stewards found that no other horse or rider was involved and the incident was caused by Poste losing his right iron and becoming unbalanced, resulting in him falling from the gelding.

The performance of RAMSES DE TEILLEE (FR), which started third favourite and finished seventh of eight finishers, was considered. David Pipe’s representative could offer no explanation other than the gelding jumped poorly on this occasion.

Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that KIMBERLITE CANDY (IRE), placed second, lost its right fore shoe.
