The 2014_Betfair_Chase

A very good race in prospect with 6 of the runners meeting again after their runs in The BET365 Charlie Hall Chase.

Silviniaco Conti will surely put the poor last run behind him and we are all hoping for a better run from him today.

One smart rival come in the shape of Menorah who ran a brilliant race in the Charlie Hall winning on merit. His stable is still on fire and he is sure to run well again.

Cue Card is another coming here with a rise in form needed. His 4th last time out was not good enough to win this but his overall form certainly is.

Taquin Du Seuil is a very interesting runner today. He was second behind Menorah in the Charlie hall and was getting 5lbs that day. Can he turn around that 4 length defeat? Well that bear form would suggest not, but he is a classy animal and improvement is on the cards.

NUMBER FORM NAME AGE WEIGHT TRAINER JOCKEY RATING

1 312-4 Cue Card 8 11-7 Colin Tizzard Daryl Jacob 172
"An eight-year-old bay gelding trained by Colin Tizzard. A good hurdler who was fourth in the 2011 supreme novices hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and a horse that took to chasing easily.
A three times Grade 1 winner taking in the Betfair Ascot Chase in February 2013 the Ryanair Chase at the 2013 Festival and winner of this race last year. A really good chaser at around 2 1/2 miles clearly being a past winner he does get this trip. He went on from this race last year to be a good second behind a very smart Silviniaco Conti in the King George at Kempton's Christmas meeting. He did not race for the rest of that season.
One run this season so far he could manage only fourth in the Haldon Gold cup Chase at Exeter race he was really expected to win. He is likely to improve from that run and will need to, to beat some of the smart contenders here today.

*Going preference. *Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to soft.
*Maximum winning distance. *Hurdle 2 miles and 4 furlongs: Chase 3 miles and 1 furlong.
*Previous win/run (to the end of last season) *Hurdle 2/5: Chase 6/13.
"

2 235-B3 Double Ross 8 11-7 Nigel Twiston-Davies Sam Twiston-Davies 160
"An Eight-year-old Chestnut Gelding from the Nigel Twiston-Davies training yard. This horse has been showing good form which came to fruition in the 2013/2014 season when in early to mid-season he seemed the model of consistency. He is dual Grade 3 winner and is probably still on the upgrade.
2 runs so far this season, he was unlucky to be brought down in the first but shrugged that off on 1 November when running really well in the Charlie Hall Chase where he finished third. That was very respectable considering he had three of today's rivals in behind, namely Medermit, Silviniaco Conti and The Giant Bolster. He will have to continue to improve to win this race with two of those expected to improve.

* Going preference* Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to soft.
* Maximum winning distance* Hurdle 2 miles and 5 furlongs: Chase 2 miles and 5 furlongs.
* Previous win/run (to the end of last season)* Hurdle 2/16: Chase 3/11.
"

3 2512- Dynaste 8 11-7 David Pipe Tom cudamore 167
"An eight-year-old grey gelding trained by David pipe. A really classy improving chaser he was the winner of the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last season.
He is a previous winner of the Feltham novices Chase grade 1 at the Kempton Christmas meeting. He is also a previous winner of the Mildmay novices Chase at Aintree.
He is usually consistent but very occasionally he can put in a poor performance when this happens he seems to sulk and gets tailed off.

He does have the class to win this race if he puts his best foot forward and is one of the major contenders. We have not seen him yet this season but he has won on two occasions in his first race of the season.

*Going preference. *Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to heavy.
*Maximum winning distance. *Hurdle 3 miles: Chase 3 miles and 1 furlong.
*Previous win/run (to the end of last season). *Hurdle 2/11: Chase 5/9.
"

4 1331P- Harry Topper 7 11-7 Kim Bailey Jason Maguire 161
"A seven-year-old bay gelding trained by Kim Bailey.
A good hurdler who progressed through to have a really good start to his novice chasing career.
He is a previous winner of the Charlie Hall Chase which he won in 2013 and is also a winner of the grade 2 Denman Chase at Newbury. He seems to be at his best at around 3 miles on ground with give in it. An interest in improving horse.

An interesting runner having his first outing of the season. Nothing to suggest that he won't run well as he won first time out in his last two seasons. He is up against some good rivals here today and will have to show the improvement that I believe is connections think they will see.

"

5 48-44 Medermit 10 11-7 Alan King Denis O'Regan 155
"A 10-year-old grey gelding who runs from the Alan King yard. A well exposed 10-year-old who rarely runs a bad race.
A previous winner of the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novices Steeplechase and the Grade 2 Halden Gold cup which he won in November 2011. He has found it impossible to win since despite running with credit in his races. A good horse who too often just finds a few to good in his races.

2 average runs last season have been followed by the same this season. He does not look the force of old and in this good field it would be a surprise if he regained his old sparkle and was fighting out the finish.

* Going preference* Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to soft.
* Maximum winning distance* Hurdle 2 miles: Chase 2 miles and 4 1/2 furlongs.
* Previous Win/run (to the end of last season)* Hurdle 4/13: Chase 4/15.
"

6 P051-1 Menorah 9 11-7 Philip Hobbs Richard Johnson 168
"A bay gelding from the Philip Hobbs yard. A Grade 1 winner over both hurdles and chases. A smart hurdler who turned into a good chaser. Well exposed he is often found running in the good races of the season. A previous winner of the Grade 1 Manifesto Novices Chase at Aintree.
Did seem best at around the 2 1/2 mile distance and when tried at distances approaching 3 miles he ran well at Aintree in the Grade 1 Betfred Bowl Chase Where He Ran Second to the Very Smart First Lieutenant and has since won the Charlie Hall Chase
One run so far this season a really fine win in The BET365 Charlie Hall Chase. That was no fluke as the horse ran superbly throughout the race and left a good field behind that day with five of his rival’s today in behind. Stable in great form sure to run well and looks a big price?
* Ground Preference* Wins Have Come on Ground Ranging from Good through to Heavy.
* Maximum winning distance* Hurdle 2 Miles 1 Furlong: Chase 2 Miles and 6 Furlongs.
* Previous Win/Run (to end of last season)* Hurdle 5/11: Chase 5/17.
"

7 3141-5 Silviniaco Conti 8 11-7 Paul Nicholls Noel Fehily 174
"A top class chestnut gelding running out of the Paul Nicholls yard.
This horse was a very good hurdler who took really well to chasing winning the Grade 2 Mildmay Novices Chase at Aintree in 2012 beating the very smart Champion Court. He is a previous winner of the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase, the Grade 1 Betfair chase and very impressively the William Hill King George VI Chase at Kempton Park. He has run twice in the Cheltenham Gold cup and looked an unlucky faller in 2013 but was actually beaten fair and square in the 2014 renewal. This horse is young and still improving and is one of the top chasers in the country today.
1 run this season a poor performance by any standards and especially by his. He could only manage fifth in The BET365 Charlie Hall Chase with Menorah, Taquin Du Seuil, Double Ross and Medermit all ahead of him that day.
If he gets his old form back then he should reverse the form with some if not all of the above. A very interesting run and I'm sure all connections are hoping that he bounces back to form.
* Ground preference* Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to soft.
* Maximum winning distance* Hurdle 2 miles 4 furlongs: Chase 3 miles and 1 furlong.
* Previous win/run (to end of last season)* Hurdle 5/7: Chase 7/14.
"

8 211-32 Taquin Du Seuil 7 11-7 Jonjo OŽNeill Barry Geraghty 159
"A seven-year-old brown/bay gelding from the Jonjo O'Neill yard. A French import and as you would expect runs very well on soft or heavy ground. He got off to a flying start in this country and within three months won the Grade 1 Challow hurdle.
Then he was sent chasing and in the 2014 Cheltenham Festival he was a really good winner of the JLT novices Chase. A young horse still on the upgrade and certainly one to look for when the ground is heavy.
Two runs so far this season a third in an intermediate Chase then a really good run to come second behind Menorah in The BET365 Charlie Hall Chase. Could run really well here today and any movement in the betting market should not be ignored.
* Going preference* Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to heavy.
* Maximum winning distance* Hurdle 2 miles and 5 furlongs: Chase 2 miles and 5 furlongs. * Previous win/run (to the end of last season)* Hurdle 3/5: Chase 4/6.
"

9 U513-7 The Giant Bolster 9 11-7 David Bridgwater Tom Cannon 164
"A 9-year-old bay gelding from the David Bridgwater yard. He surprised everyone when running a very fine second in the 2012 Cheltenham Gold Cup, at least everyone except his trainer.
He is a previous winner of the Grade 2 Argento chase and has good form especially with some cut in the ground. His runs can sometimes be a little unpredictable with every now and again him throwing in a poor run and then spectacularly returning to form.
Just now getting probably to the peak of his form age range.
Only one run this season are very poor performance in The BET365 Charlie Hall Chase where he finished last of seven, tailed off and never really going. Looks like an extremely long haul for him here and he doesn't look the same horse away from Cheltenham.
* Going Preference* Wins Have Come on Ground Ranging from Good through to Heavy.
* Maximum winning distance* Hurdle 2 Miles and 3 Furlongs: Chase 3 Miles and One Half Furlongs.
* Previous Win/Run (to End of Last Season)* Hurdle 1/8: Chase 4/20.
