Fantastic race today with the smart and well fancied Hurricane Fly taking on all comers with a big reputation to uphold.

2010 winner Binocular running again this year but has it all to do to win again.

Paul Nicholls send his good hurdler Rock on Ruby to take on more established runners but can't be ignored today.

Race Preview

Binocular

A top class, but inconsistent horse who was the winner of this race in 2010.

As a past winner you know that this horse should put up a great performance but he can be a little frustrating to follow.
What makes this more so is that you know that when he is at his best he is better than a lot of these top class horses. Still only 8 years old he started the season back in May when third behind Hurricane Fly in the Rabobank Champion Hurdle in Punchestown. he then took his summer break and ran a good race on his reappearance in the Grade 1 Fighting fifth where he was beaten that day by Overturn.
Two very fine wins since overturning his defeat by Overturn when winning the Christmas hurdle at Kempton and had Rock on Ruby in second place that day. His last run was in the grade 2 bathwick tyres hurdle at Wincanton where he won very easily beating Celestial Halo.

Every Chance if back on form but it takes a good horse to come back and win. The only multiple winner who did not win his races in successive years was Comedy of Errors in 1973 / 1975.

Wins have come on ground ranging from good to Soft

Brampour

A really nice young horse who looks a little below some of this very classy field today.

His best performance was in the Grade 3 Greatwood Handicap Hurdle at Ascot in November where he came out on top of a big field but he also ran well at this course in December in the International Hurdle when 3rd to Grandouet and Overturn.

Wins have come on ground ranging from good to Good/Soft

Celestial Halo

Really good consistent hurdler who is another who is just below this class.

Well exposed and has been the winner or placed in 18 of his 23 hurdle races.
Celestial Halo comes from the powerful Paul Nicholls yard but others are preferred in this extremely competitive event.

Wins have come on ground ranging from good to Heavy

Hurricane Fly

Top Class Irish runner who comes here a worthy favorite and who has won his last 7 races.

An easy winner on his two starts this season in the Rabobank Champion Hurdle and the Irish Champion Hurdle the first being last May and the latter in January.

Winner of this race last year in perhaps the hardest challenge he had faced.
He is obviously the one to beat today and although he does not seem to have many chinks in his Armour he is not unbeatable.

Wins have come on ground ranging from good to Heavy

Kalann

Nice hurdler but has not shown anything that would suggest he will be in the shake up here.

Wins have come on ground ranging from good / firm to soft

Oscars Well

Nice consistent horse who has been finding one or two too good for him. He has run all but one of his races to date in Ireland.

Good effort when second to Hurricane Fly in the Irish Champion Hurdle in January and not seen since.
Runs well and always in good class races. Would have to improve a bit to overturn the Irish champion form but ran really well at this meeting last season in the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle and but for a nasty mistake at the last may well have gone on to win.

One to keep an eye on and one of the better outsiders.

Wins have come on ground ranging from Soft / Heavy

Overturn

Great horse who could only manage 7th in this race last year.

A horse with a really good heart who will trailblaize the race and will ensure that there will be a good pace in the race.
A well exposed horse who seems to be getting better with age. A grade 1 Winner who is better than his starting price would suggest.

Wins have come on ground ranging from good / firm to soft

Rock on Ruby

A good progressive sort from the Paul Nicholls yard.

A lightly raced 7 year old who has not been out of the frame in any of his hurdle races. He found Binocular just a little too good in the Christmas hurdle in December and has not been seen since.

Could be anything and that run behind Binocular does not mean he has too much to make up.

Wins have come on ground Good / soft

Zaidpour

Another from the very strong Willie Mullins yard.

Ar progressive sort who is unbeaten in his last four runs with the last two coming in grade 2 events.
A young horse who would need to improve to win here but really needs soft ground to show his best so the good ground here may be a disadvantage.

Wins have come on ground ranging from good / soft to heavy

Zarkandar

Young pretender today, this horse won last seasons Triumph hurdle.

Unbeaten in four runs for Paul Nicholls he could be the one with enough improvement in him and lets be fair he does have to improve quite a lot on what we have seen of his rivals so far.

Won the Grade 1 novice hurdle at Aintree at the end of last season and his one run this season was in the Grade 3 Betfair Hurdle in February and that should have put him spot on for this race.
Not one to be left out of any reckoning.

Wins have come on ground ranging from good / good / soft
