THE 2021 RACE

-----------------------------------

Honeysuckle is unbeaten from 10 runs and this mare is top class and a worthy favourite. She has tun well over 2 miles 4 furlongs and is also very good over this minimum distance. She won the Mares chase last season but will have more on her plate. She will also get an allowance for being a mare. Although this will be her biggest challenge there is no reason why she can't win this but it might require a personal best from her.

Epatante was last years impressive winner. Her first run of the season was very good but she let that form down somewhat at Kempton on boxing day when Silver Streak beat her fair and square. She has been put away for this race since and is sure to give a good account.

Goshen was 10 lengths in the lead at the last hurdle at the festival last year in the Triumph Hurdle before unseating his rider. His first run back this season was most disappointing but he bounced back to top form on his last and only other run this season at Wincanton where he won by 22 lengths. If he gets into a good rhythm he will run the legs of the others and look the likely winner to me.

Abacadadras was a good second in the supreme to Shishkin last season. He has been beaten by both Honeysuckle and Sharjah this season and although he is a really good horse it is difficult to see him overturning the form with the fav.

Sharjah was second in this race last year and shows that he loves the track. He took the scalp of the smart Aspire Tower at the end of December before going down to Honeysuckle. Will run well but to turn the form with the fav will take some doing.

Silver Streak is another who usually puts a few pounds better performance at the festival. He could only manage 6th last season but was 3rd the year before and he looks to be in that sort of form this year. He beat the reigning champion by six and a half lengths last time out and that looked fair and square. A few weeks earlier he was a nose second giving weight away to Song for Someone. He looks in great form this year and I will be surprised if he does not make the frame and is good enough to win.

Aspire Tower is a very consistent horse who ran really well in last seasons Triumph coming in 2nd. He looks better this season and looks the right sort but there may be others in the race with more chance.

James Du Berlais is a real consistent sort who has finished in the first two on his last 9 runs. His runs have been in France and he has moved trainers to Willie Mullins back in January. His form does not stand up to this but he is only a 5 year old so he should have lots of improvement to come.

Sadlier beat some good horses in November 2019 with Petit Mouchoir, Klassical Dream and SharJar in behind. He has not since shown that form and that form may still not be good enough. He has it all to do.

Not so Sleepy is a really good horse but is not up to this class and would be a surprise winner.

Pick : GOSHEN : NB SILVER STREAK

STEWARDS REPORT

-----------------------------------

EPATANTE (FR) wore ear plugs which were removed at the start.
The Stewards noted that SALDIER (FR), placed seventh, veered sharply right shortly after jumping the fourth hurdle, in order to avoid ABACADABRAS (FR), which had fallen.
Following the race, Jamie Moore reported that GOSHEN (FR), placed eighth, hung badly right-handed and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
