THE 2022 RACE

-----------------------------------

Adagio. Trained by David Pipe and a winner of 3 of his 8 hurdle starts does not really show how good this horse's chance is. He was a smart winner of the 2021 Coral Finale Hurdle at Chepstow and has run very well since then. Second to Quilixious in last years, Triumph was a good run at the festival. Second, in the Greatwood Hurdle at this course back in November was a good run as he had to give over a stone to the winner that day. On his last run, he ran into Goshen who although seemingly a completely mad horse is very talented when he puts in all together (and was long odds on for the race). This will be a different story today but he has the unbeaten Honeysuckle and Appreciate it to tackle today. They are good horses but Adagio will not look lost here against them. A good E/W chance at big odds.

Appreciate it. Not seen since his eyecatching win in last year's Supreme. A very talented horse who acts at the course. A lot has to be taken on trust today as no horse has won this race on his first run of the season, but if anyone can achieve this it will come as no surprise if his trainer Willie Mullins archives this. Great Chance despite lack of runs this season.

Glory and Fortune. Winner of the Welsh Champion Hurdle and second in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton indicates he is a good horse but would be a surprise winner.

Not So Sleepy. A good horse and I suspect that he is here on the back of his good win in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, however, I suspect that form is not good enough for him to win today.

Saint Roi. A good horse but does not look good enough for this race and would be a surprise winner.

Teahupoo. Runs from the Strong Gorden Elliott yard and has come in for some support lately. 2 Grade 3 wins and a Grade 2 win on the last three runs shows he has talent form and is improving. Impossible to leave out of the reckoning.

Tommy's Oscar. Put together 3 wins and then capped it with a grade 2 win in the New One Hurdle at Haydock. Needs to improve to win this but should have improvement to come.

Zanahiyr. Grade 2 Winner but has just been touched off in three grade ones this season. A good horse but his talent may just be below these at present. Only 5 years old so one to keep an eye on for next season.

Epatante. Former winner two years ago but then seemed to lose her way. Back to winning form lately however winning the fighting fifth and also the Christmas Hurdle ay Kempton. She will get the mares allowance from most of these. Been kept fresh for this race and has place claims again this year (3rd last year).

Honeysuckle. Won all of her 14 starts in good style. She is fast, talented and a good jumper. A course and distance winner and the one all have to beat today. Something of a superstar look to her which she will need to frank today.

Pick : Honeysuckle. NB Adagio

STEWARDS REPORT

-----------------------------------

Permission was given for TOMMY'S OSCAR (IRE) to wear a red hood to post. Following the race, Gordon Elliott reported that TEAHUPOO (FR), unplaced, was unsuited by the going, which was officially described as Good to Soft, and would prefer a slower surface.
