Almanzor the French trained bay colt is coming here on a four-time winning run. His form is very solid and it looks like he was aimed at this race as his connections sidestepped the Arc a few weeks ago. He is a multiple group one winner and comes here on the back of his really good run in the Irish Champion stakes where he beat this year's Arc winner, Found by three quarters of a length. Looks to have everything in his favour and must be there with a chance at the end.

Putting a five time runner-up sequence to bed last time out, the Arc winner Found comes here again in good form. This four-year-old Bay filly is top-class but is yet to win on this course. If the Arc has not taken too much out of her she must have a really good chance.

Last year's winner of this race is Dermot Weld's high-class five-year-old Bay colt Fascinating Rock. He is very consistent in his runs. He is a multiple group winner and dual group one winner. He has beaten the Arc winner Found on two occasions, the first in this race last year and the second in a group one at the Curragh back in May. That said three weeks earlier in a group 3 he couldn't get to within three lengths of Found on slightly better ground. Likes some cut in the ground and any drying of the course would not probably be in his favour, but a downpour may well heighten his chances.

The champion trainer John Gosden trains Jack Hobbs for the Godolphin partners. He was a really good horse last year and was second in the English Derby but came one better in the Irish equivalent winning by a good five length margin. He was third in this race last year when a strong favourite in the betting. A little worrying perhaps that he has only had one run this season and that was back in April when he was pulled up in a group 2 at Newmarket. A lot take on trust but a good classy horse.

Sir Michael Stoute has won this race twice as a trainer in 1997 with Pilsudski and then again in 2000 with Kalanisi. Today he's got a try with his lightly raced three-year-old Bay colt Midterm a group 3 winner at the start of the season. He has been slightly disappointing in his last two runs. Improvement required to win here.

This year is favourite for the Epsom Derby was the Aidan O'Brien trained US Army Ranger. Up to is run in the Derby he was unbeaten in two starts. In the race he was held up at the back and completely switched off, at the business end of the race he made extremely good headway but having hung left slightly he was unable to catch the smart Dermot Weld colt Harzan and lost by one and a half lengths. Following that Aidan sent him back to the Curragh in a group 3 over 10 furlongs. He started the races a hot favourite but was disappointing that day finishing only fourth. He has improved on that in another group 3 finish when second at Leopardstown however he will have to improve to win this. Given how good he looked as a two-year-old you wonder if he could switch it on today but a lot has to be taken on trust.

Lightly raced four-year-old Bay colt from the Godolphin team is Racing History. He ran up a trio of good wins last year before finishing fourth in this race. He has not been seen on the race course this season and will have it all to do today on his maiden run.

Lambourn trainer Clive Cox takes his well exposed four-year-old Bay colt My Dream Boat to take his chance today. Here's a reasonably consistent horse although his last two runs have perhaps been below par however he is probably better judged on his really good win in the Prince of Wales's stakes at this course over this distance where he beat the Arc winner Found by a neck. Obviously he likes this course and a repeat of that form would give him a chance at a big price.

The 2014 Irish Champion stakes winner The Grey Gatsby comes here today off a very poor run in the Arc. He did not run his race that day and finished last but run possibly if there was something wrong. He is a dual group one winner and therefore cannot be completely ruled out but this is a very hot race and it would be a surprise to see them win today.

Gabriel is a well exposed seven-year-old Bay gelding who sees plenty of racing as he has run 56 times in his career. None of his wins have been up to this class and would be a real surprise if he won today.

Maverick ways although being trained by the champion trainer John Gosden looks to have little chance today and is possibly running as a pacemaker for the other Godolphin horses.

Story_of_the_Race

Despite being slowly away from the stalls, Almanzor was taken wide then back on to the rails in the race. He was always going within himself and took up the lead at the furlong post and won well.

Found was held up early on and ran on well, but the winner got first run on her. She stayed on well but never got to the winner. Finished second.

Jack Hobbs was held up made good progress in closing 2 furlong but never looked like winning. Finished 3rd.

My Dream Boat was not going well early on but stayed the trip well and passed tired horses in the last two furlongs to finish 4th.

The Grey Gatsby ran wide and was made to come around field made really good progress and lead for short time 2 out. Lost placed in last furlong and finished 5th

Racing History Started well up field but did not settle. Looked to be going well but faded in last two furlongs. Finished 6th

Midterm was keen early on and lost place from two out but rallied and stayed on. Finished 7th

US Army Ranger was well up with pace but faded in the business end of the race. Finished 8th

Gabrial was slow from gate and always behind. Finished 9th

Maverick Wave was quick from the stalls but soon faded when pace hotted up. Finished last.
