A very interesting race this year With the smart 2011 Gold Cup winner Long Run heading the market. A great horse who if he runs up to his best will take all the beating today as the highest rated horse in the field.

Plenty of trainers entering their horses here and Paul Nichols is sending his very smart Unioniste who was very impressive in some of his races in his novice year last season.

Gold Cup runner up and 4th the The Giant Bolster is also set to make his seasonal bow today, a horse that has does little wrong in the last two seasons but finds it hard to win although usually running well.

Cape Tribulation and Benifficient lead the challenge from Irland with the Mouse Morris trainer First Lieutenant looking as if he is a non-runner here.

RACE CONDITIONS: - For 5yo+ Weights 11st Penalties after September, 2012, a winner of a Class 3 weight-for-age chase or a Class 2 handicap chase 4lb; of a Class 2 weight-for-age chase or a Class 1 handicap chase 6lb; of a Class 1 weight-for-age chase 10lb (Half penalties wins achieved in Novices' and Beginners' Chases in Great Britain and Ireland) Allowances mares 7lb

Number Form Name Age Weight Trainer Jockey Official Rating
1 51155- Cape Tribulation 9 11-10 Malcolm Jefferson Dougie Costello 160
Argento Chase winner Cape Tribulation is perhaps the better of the Irish runners today. 5th in last seasons Cheltenham Gold cup with two of his rivals Long Run and The Giant Bolster both in front of his that day. Can't be dismissed today.

N/R 2213-3 First Lieutenant 8 11-10 M F Morris # 170
Likely Non-runner today and is also entered in the Irish Grande 1 Chase.

2 2132- Long Run 8 11-10 Nicky Henderson Mr S Waley-Cohen 171
Top class 2011 Gold Cup winner. Dual King George winner and his win last season was one of the highlights of the season. A great horse who if on song will take some beating today, but in the last few seasons he has taken a race to get to his best.

3 1P76-5 Wayward Prince 9 11-10 Hilary Parrott Jack Doyle 147
A top class novice a few years ago this horse has not quite lived up to expectations, that said he ran a cracker of a race in this last year coming second to the very useful Silviniaco Conti. Runs today with the benefit of a previous run this season.

4 111UB- Harry Topper 6 11-6 Kim Bailey Jason Maguire 152
A good novice last season who finished the season off with two unlucky runs when unseating and being brought down which blackened a good run. Quietly fancied and on the up and could well put up a good show today.

5 13114- Unioniste 5 11-6 Paul Nicholls Sam Twiston-Davies 153
French import who won a grade 3 race at Cheltenham last December. Will like the softer ground and is an interesting runner who could be a lot better than his bare rating

6 2411P- Benefficient 7 11-5 A J Martin A.P.McCoy 157
Another interesting runner from Ireland and last seasons Jewson winner at the festival. Another who will relish the softer ground.

N/R 312U5- Big Fella Thanks 11 11-4 Tom George Paddy Brennan 153
4 time Grand National runner would be a welcome but surprise winner here today. Will like the ground and could run well but sometimes needs a run.

N/R 31244 Billie Magern 9 11-0 Nigel Twiston-Davies # 142
A good novice who has been running well enough in handicap races to keep him out of the winners enclosure. He likes good or better ground and therefore he would be a surprise winner here today.

7 6/656- Master Of The Hall 9 11-0 Micky Hammond Dominic Elsworth 148
A nice horse is another who will have to improve on his known form to win here today.

N/R 3P247- The Giant Bolster 8 11-0 David Bridgwater # 164
2nd and 4th in the Cheltenham Gold cup and that will be his long term goal this season. He likes the softer ground and is a classy horse and looks good value in this race today with horses rated less having shorter betting prices.
