It’s a real shame that this race has cut up so badly due to the going today. It has taken something of a shine of the race but this is still an interesting race if not for betting purposes but for the coming season.

The classiest horse in the race is of course the top weight of this handicap. Definitly Red was 6th in last seasons Cheltenham Gold Cup. He was 3rd in this race last year and followed that up with a good win at Aintree beating Cloudy Dream by 7L. A good chance.

Regal Encore has too many P (Pulled Up) in his form to be really fancied at this level. Needs soft ground to show his best.

Virgilio is also a god improving horse. He was 3rd behind Definitly Red here a month ago. Can’t really see a reason why he should overturn that today.

Black Corton has been going from strength to strength and gets on really well with his jockey Briony Frost who is becoming one of the best jockeys. Could go very well today and win or lose will be one to keep on the right side of.

Double shuffle is the consistent type of chaser who should well give you a god run for your money. He is a lovely horse but who does not win that often probably because he runs so well in defeat. Could today be his day?

Story_of_the_Race

With Regal Encore being pulled out of the race because of the ground it left what could have been an uninteresting 4 runner affair but nothing could have been further from the truth.

As they all ran to the first fence Double Shuffle make a bad mistake at the first and took a heavy fall.

Then there was more drama at the 3rd when Black Corton skewed at the jump and hoisted Bryony Frost out of the saddle. She held on up the horses neck and just when you thought there was no hope of her staying on the horse she made one of the best recoveries ever seen and she continued in the race.

The eventual winner Definitly Red ran a good race throughout taking the lead mid-way through the race and running strongly and was looking very good in the finishing stages to win by 2 lengths.

The second Black Corton made good progress after the mistake at the 3rd and ran on well.

Virgilio ran a satisfying race but was never really on terms.
