Race Preview

Bobs Worth

Top class chaser and winner of last season's RSA Chase at Cheltenham Festival. A previous winner (2011) of the Albert Bartlett novice hurdle also at the Festival. He has done very little wrong in his career, loves Cheltenham and a worthy favourite for this race. Has only been seen once this season when beating Tidal Bay and First Lieutenant.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to good to soft and up to a distance of 3 miles and one furlong.

Cape Tribulation

Winner of the Pertemps final handicap hurdle at the Festival last season. Comes here on the back of a fine run at this course back in January where he beat Imperial Commander and Hunt Ball. Will have to improve on those two runs to win this today but certainly not without a chance.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to heavy and up to a distance of 3 miles and two furlongs.

Captain Chris

A really good chaser who was fourth in last season's Ryanair Chase. A winner of a grade 2 Chase at Ascot in November, he franked that with a good second to long-run in the King George VI Chase and then a fine second in a grade one Chase at Ascot behind recent good winner Cue Card. Those three fine runs were all on right-handed courses on although this horse is very good he does tend to jump out to the right which will not be an advantage on this tough left-handed course. That said he has won on this course in the 2011 Arkle Chase at the Festival beating last year's Champion Chase winner Finian's Rainbow.

Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to heavy and up to a distance of 2 miles and five furlongs.

Long Run

Fantastic top class chaser. This horse has never been out on the first three in his career and that totals 24 races. He is top-class consistent and at past winner of this race. He was third last year and horses trying to regain Gold cup wins have a poor record with the only horse to ever achieve this was Kauto Star. Despite the statistics the horse has a good chance of winning and is certain to run well and into a place.
Wins have come on the ground and arranging from good through to heavy and up to a distance of 3 miles and three furlongs.

Monbeg Dude

Winner of a grade 3 handicap Chase at this course back in November over 3 1/2 miles, the then follow that up with a really fine win in the Welsh Grand National. Ran well in the grand national trial at Haydock over 3 1/2 miles when finishing third in February. A good young horse but does not look quite up to this class this year.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to heavy and up to a distance of 3 miles and six furlongs.

Silvinaco Conti

A rapidly improving chaser this season, this seven-year old from Paul Nicholls training yard is now vying for favouritism. Has not been beaten in four runs this season improving markedly with every race. Winner of the Lancashire Chase a grade 1 at Haydock and also an eye-catching performance when winning Denman chase. Looks to have a great chance in this competitive renewal.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to soft and up to a distance of 3 miles and one furlong.

Sir Des Champs

The best of the Irish challengers from Willie Mullins's yard. A top-class horse who does most of his running in Ireland where he is one of the best chasers. Has run twice at the Festival winning the conditional jockeys hurdle in 2011 and the Jewson Chase last year. At top-class horse who likes this course and will be fighting out the finish.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to heavy and up to a distance of 3 miles and one furlong.

Sunnyhillboy

A really nice chaser and winner of an amateur Riders handicap Chase last season at this festival. He went on from there to finish second in the Grand National. Probably has the Grand National as his main target this year and has only run twice in preparation for this race with both races being in minor hurdle races. He could just be at the peak of his form this year and if so could be one of the more lively outsiders who has been overlooked. His price surely reflects the fact that most pundits think that the Grand National is his main aim of the season.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to soft and up to a distance of 3 miles and two furlongs.

The Giant Bolster

Second in this race last year at the huge price of 50 to 1. Seemed to surprise everyone except his trainer. Highly thought of by his trainer he has not quite managed to live up to that sparkling form that he showed last season. He was third in the Lancashire Chase behind Silvinaco Conti and Long Run and will both challenge again today. He was pulled up in the King George at the Christmas meeting when running very disappointingly. Came back with a good run in the Denman chase at Newbury when second behind Silvinaco Conti once again. It is difficult to see him reversing the form with Silvinaco Conti but he did peak form in this race last year.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to soft and up to a distance of 2 miles seven furlongs.

Wayward Prince

Previously third in the 2011 RSA Chase. His best run was behind Silvinaco Conti at Wetherby in the Charlie Hall Chase. Although second to the horse that day he was 11 lengths behind and it is difficult to see him reversing that today. Looks like one of the also-rans.
Wins have come on ground ranging from good through to soft and up to a distance of 3 miles and one furlong.
