This is usually a competitive early season race with horses often going on to contest the Champion Hurdle at the Festival.

More . . . . .

A shame to see this field cut up like it has but it should be a good contest.

Peace and Co is the obvious place to start, this smart unbeaten horse needs to come here straight out of the box and put up a good run. looks very classy and is the one to beat.

Old Guard from Paul Nicholls has shown his true form this season winning on two occasions in good style. Lets hope he can give the jolly a run for his money.

Sempre Medici comes here for Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh is here for the ride. Perhaps this is something of a fact finding run? However Mullins has so many good horses in Ireland that his runner can rearly be dismissed.

Small field yes, but there could be some real pointers for the season here!

1 3281-6 Cheltenian 9 11-4 Philip Hobbs Richard Johnson 153

A nine-year-old Bay gelding trained by Philip Hobbs.
A nice hurdler from the Hobbs stable who ran consistently well last season and who ran well enough at the Festival coming eighth in the county hurdle. A month later he went to Scotland and was a good winner of the Scottish champion hurdle.

More will be needed today to win this race as there are a few young stars in the field however he does go on heavy ground and perhaps after rain soaked night the ground could be very soft.

4 wins from 15 starts on ground ranging from good through to heavy and up to a distance of 2 miles and half a furlong.

2 1136-4 Hargam 4 11-4 Nicky Henderson Barry Geraghty 154
A four-year-old grey gelding trained by Nicky Henderson.
A nice improving young horse who was a winner at this meeting last season. He went on to be third in the Triumph hurdle behind his stablemate and opponent today Peace and Co. He is young and still improving but is difficult to see him beating that horse today.

3 wins from nine starts on ground ranging from good through to good to soft and up to a distance of 2 miles and 1 furlong.

3 293-11 Old Guard 4 11-4 Paul Nicholls Sam Twiston-Davies 157
A four-year-old Bay gelding trained by Paul Nicholls.
A really good improving hurdler who put up a couple of good runs in his early career but sort of went off the boil towards the end of last season.
He has been something of a revelation this season getting his act together in two races both at this course and distance. Certainly looks one to be going places and will be fighting out the finish.

4 wins from 10 starts on ground ranging from good through to soft and up to a distance of 2 miles and half a furlong.

4 1111- Peace And Co 4 11-4 Nicky Henderson Daryl Jacob 159
A four-year-old Bay gelding trained by Nicky Henderson.
A nice young improving horse who to date is unbeaten in his races. He was the winner of the Triumph hurdle at last year's festival and looks top-notch.
A worthy favorite and the one they all have to beat.

4 wins from four starts all on soft ground and up to a distance of 2 miles and 1 furlong.

5 2761-4 Sempre Medici 5 11-4 W P Mullins Ruby Walsh 148
A five-year-old Bay gelding trained by Willie Mullins.
A well exposed horse for a young five-year-old who has been running well in top-class races. He was sixth in last seasons county hurdle at the Festival and is likely to run well here as he will be fit from a run on the flat.

3 wins from 15 starts on ground ranging from soft through to heavy and up to a distance of 2 miles.

6 23-523 Melodic Rendezvous 9 11-0 Jeremy Scott Nick Schofield 150
A six-year-old chestnut gelding trained by Jeremy Scott.
A good juvenile hurdler who was looking as if he could be top-class in his second season.
However he perhaps let down a good season in 2014 by only finishing seventh in the champion hurdle and then was last of the field at the Aintree Festival a month later.
He has since been novice chasing however this season he has returned to hurdles and put up a fine performance in the elite hurdle when he was second behind the smart Irving.
He loves soft ground and that should be in his favor today but he has a lot to prove against some of these potentially smart hurdler's.

8 wins from 19 starts on ground ranging from good to soft through to heavy and up to a distance of 2 miles and 1 furlong.
