THE 2019 RACE

-----------------------------------

Aso is a soft ground horse who will love the conditions at Kempton. The big question for the horse is the distace. He seems to be better at a trip a little shorter than this. His class up to now also seems a bit lower than this. He is a good horse but not only will he have to run up to his best but others will need to fail so unless the gound is bottomless it is hard to fancy his chances.

Clan Des Obeaux was last year winner. He won the race in good style and then confirmed that form ay Aascot a few weeks later. he then ran well for a long time in the Gold Cup before fading up the run-in. It may be that 3miles is his distance limit and he like this track. It would be foolish to leave him out of your reconing as many winners come back and run well again.

Cyrname is from the same stable as Clan Des Obeaux and is the new kid on the block. He has been chosen by the stable jockey over last years winner. He has done nothing wrong in his last three runs winning convincingly and in this last run, he ended the winning streak of the mighty Altior. Trying three miles today for the first time under rules. A little to find but a very impressive horse.

Irish Raider Footpad has been a good servant to his connections. Winning 6 of his 9 chase starts he has a lot of class. he was the 2018 Arkle winner at the festival. He started the season on good form winning a listed chase in Ireland. He has not run over this distance in a chase (once over hurdles). Something to prove at this distance.

Lostintranslation is a top-class chaser in the making. He is consistent and improving. He was second in the JLT at the festival last season over 2m4f but was then stepped up in trip to 3m at Aintree and was very impressive. He has won both chases in good style this season winning the Betfair chase on his last run. Looks like a Gold Cup contender and therefore will take all the beating today.

Lostintranlation's stablemate Thistlecrack is another fine chaser. He was unbeatable as a novice and then won this race in 2016, but has not lived up fully to the promise seen then. Despite that, he always runs a good race and with some fair wind, he will not be disgraced in what could turn out to be a very influential race.

It's a pity that Altior is not taking part in the race as the repeat run against Cyrname is awaited by may but this is a great race nevertheless.
It would not be a surprise for any one of the four top horses in the betting market to win but the choice goes to Lostintranslation who seems to have everything going for him including momentum.
