STEWARDS REPORT

-----------------------------------

Permission was given for CYRNAME (FR) to be first in the parade order.

An enquiry was held to consider interference on the final bend when the winner, FRODON (FR), ridden by Bryony Frost, interfered with SAINT CALVADOS (FR), placed fourth, ridden by Gavin Sheehan. Frost was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as she allowed her mount to drift right-handed without sufficient correction causing SAINT CALVADOS (FR) to become unbalanced for several strides.

The performance of CYRNAME (FR), which started favourite and was pulled up, was considered. Harry Cobden reported that the gelding was never travelling. Paul Nicholls’ representative could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of CYRNAME (FR), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The winner, FRODON, appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Aintree on 5 December 2020 where the gelding finished fourth of fifth, beaten by 82 lengths. Paul Nicholls’ representative’s explanation that the gelding benefitted from being able to jump more fences today, when a significant number of fences were omitted at Aintree last time out, was noted. FRODON (FR) was routine tested.

Following the race, The Veterinary Officer reported that LOSTINTRANSLATION (IRE), which was pulled up, had bled from the nose.
