The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Ascot racecourse is home to 1 mile 4 furlong The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes

This race is Britain's most prestigious open-age flat race, and is well contested by good horses.

The_2014_Race

With the Oaks winner Taghroooda in the race today it looks like another top class renweal of the race this year. She sidestepped the Irish Oaks to come here today.

Another top class horse in the shape of the very smart Eagle top who has been supplimented for the race will now add to the spice of the race. Both these horses trained by by John Gosden

John Gosden also has another runner in the race the smart Romsdal who should also run well

Mukhadram another horse owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum is also enetered and has a fine race record but has not yet won at this course from his 4 attempts.

Sir Michael Stoute send his top class colt Telescope to take his chance on the back of his fine course win here back in June in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes

A really good competitive race in prospect today.

Full profile on all horses by Friday night !!

NUMBER DRAW FORM NAME AGE WEIGHT Trainer JOCKEY

1 N/R 148-25 Flintshire 4 9-7 A Fabre *
NON-RUNNER

2 3 9-6825 Leitir Mor 4 9-7 J S Bolger Ronan Whelan
An Irish invader and although a good horse this 4-y-old bay gelding looks to have it all to do against this top class field.

3 4 1-6122 Magician 4 9-7 A P O´Brien Joseph O'Brien
Top class 4-year old colt out of classic winner Galileo. Irish 2000 guineas winner last year and also a Group 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf winner at Santa Anita. This top class horse who seems to go on any ground and stated this season with a group 3 win and has follwed it up with two Group 1 seconds. He will have to bring his “A game” today and would be a worthy winner.

4 1 15-241 Mukhadram 5 9-7 William Haggas Dane O'Neil
A fine 5-year-old group winner who finally got his group 1 win this season when he won the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on the 5th of July. Comes here therefore in the top of his form but despite some good runs he has never managed to win at this course which some horses seem to like and some don’t. Therefore this is a slight worry today.

5 2 21-221 Telescope 4 9-7 Sir Michael Stoute Ryan Moore
Top class 4 year-old bay colt who has shown a liking for this course and was a recent winner of the Group 2 Hardwicke stakes last month. Trainer by 5 times a winner of this race Michael Stoute. Stepping up to Group 1 for the first time today and if at the top of his form he has a good chance.

6 6 223-32 Trading Leather 4 9-7 J S Bolger Kevin Manning
4 Year-old bay colt is another Irish raider. Winner of the Irish Derby last season he was a good 2nd in this race last year on firm ground and although it will be softer than that today he should handle the ground without problems. Second behind Mukhadram in the Coral-Eclipse last time out and both horses should finish close again today.

7 8 141 Eagle Top 3 8-9 John Gosden William Buick
This chestnut colt has been substituted for this race today and presumably after his really fine performance at this course in the Group 2 King Edward VII stakes where he was impressive winner by more than 3 lengths. He will also get the 3 year-old allowance so it is interesting especially that only one 3 year-old has won this race in the last 10 years.

8 5 3123 Romsdal 3 8-9 John Gosden Richard Hughes
A good 3 year-old Colt who comes to this race on the back of his good run in this year’s Derby where he finished 3rd. Comes here today with more promise than confidence as he has only ever won a maiden but obviously he is better than that. An interesting runner who gets the 3 year-old allowance but he will have to improve on what we have witnessed against these top class proven winners, and perhaps his inexperience of only 4 previous runs is also against him but he is from the John Gosden yard and they will have him spot on.

9 7 1-11 Taghrooda 3 8-6 John Gosden Paul Hannigan
Top class, unbeaten and a classic winner touches all the right points for this 3 year-old bay filly. She has won both of her three year old races by a good length and is a very exciting runner today. She not only gets the 3 year-old allowance (12lbs) but also the filly’s allowance (3lbs) and therefore will carry more than a stone less than her 4 year-old opponents. Although she is untried at this course if this classic Oaks winner shows her best she should be in the shake-up at the end of the race.
