The JLT Lockinge stakes is a top class Group One race for horses of 4 years and over.

The race is run at Newbury racecourse in May each year.

This race has been a Group 2 and also a Group 3 in the past but was given Group 1 status in 1995.

A interesting race today Olympic Glory being the highest rated looking to have nothing to prove.

Not so with US inport Verrazano who if he turns out to be as good on turf as he is on dirt could well be a major player in races this year.

Excelent contest this year.

NO. DRAW FORM NAME AGE WEIGHT TRAINER JOCKEY

1 6 177-2 Chopin 4 9-0 A Wohler Jamie Spencer
Winner of the group 3 in Germany this bay colt has not lived up to expectations. Seventh in last year's Derby and seventh in aGgroup 3 at Ascot over 1 mile 2 furlongs. Has run once this year in Germany when a beaten favourite into second place. Obviously has talent but will need to improve to win this competitive event.

2 wins from 6 starts on ground ranging from good through to soft and up to a distance of 1 mile and 1 furlong.

2 4 20305 Empire Storm 7 9-0 Michael Attwater Kieren Fallon
A seven-year-old bay horse who is fully exposed and does not look up to the class of this race, looks out of his depth.

3 wins from 34 starts on good ground up to a distance of 1 mile and 1 furlong.

3 7 1152-2 Montiridge 4 9-0 Richard Hannon Richard Hughes
A Group 3 winner taking a step up in class today, probably on the basis of two good seconds in Group 2, 1 mile races. A consistent sort who could make the frame today.

5 wins from 11 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to soft and up to a distance of 1 mile.

4 3 02219- Olympic Glory 4 9-0 Richard Hannon Frankie Dettori
One of the best horses in the race and the highest rated. A winner of last season's Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II stakes at Ascot and looks the one to beat today.

6 wins from 11 starts on ground ranging from good through to heavy and up to a distance of 1 mile.

5 8 5641-1 Sruthan 4 9-0 P D Deegan Chris Hayes
A nice four-year-old bay gelding who came to the peak of his form last season winning a Group 3 at Tipperary. Opened his account this year with a fine win in another Group 3 at the Curragh. Not sure if that form will hold up today as there still seems to be quite a bit of improvement needed. Probably better watched today.

4 wins from 7 starts on ground ranging from yielding through to soft and up to 1 mile.

6 1 2112-4 Top Notch Tonto 4 9-0 Brian Ellison Dale Swift
A well exposed for-year-old chestnut gelding who already has raced over 20 times. Seems to act on any going and looks best at around 1 mile. He is a Group 3 winner and was second To Olympic Glory in the Queen Elizabeth II stakes at Ascot last year. Reasonable warm-up effort last month when fourth in a Group 2,as he seems to need a run to get going.. We would have to see some improvement for him to win today and others have more appeal.

5 wins from 20 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to heavy and up to a distance of 1 mile.

7 2 037-21 Tullius 6 9-0 Andrew Balding Jimmy Fortune
Another well exposed six-year-old chestnut gelding who seems currently to be still improving. His last race was probably his best when winning a Group 2 at Sandown over 1 mile on soft ground. Will need to step up on that today to win here but not an impossible task for this horse.

8 wins from 20 starts on ground ranging from good through to soft add up to a distance of 1 mile and one furlong.

8 5 11743- Verrazano 4 9-0 A P OŽBrien Joseph O'Brien
A recent import to this country and has now been placed for training with top Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien. Past form is very good although it is all on dirt as many of the races in the USA are. A Grade 1 winner over 1 mile and 1 furlong, and had a run in the Kentucky Derby (finished 14th) but subsequent Grade 1 winner post Derby run. Has won over 1 mile but may be better over a furlong longer or more. A very interesting runner who if he takes to turf could be winning some of this year's big prizes open to horses of 4 year-old's and over.

6 wins from 10 starts on dirt and up to a distance of 1 mile and one furlong.
