The Oaks traditionally is the third of the five English classic flat races for three year old thoroughbred horses.

The race is open to fillies only and is run in late May or early June at Epsom Downs racecourse.

The race is run at the same meeting as another classic race which is the equivalent race for all three year olds which is The Derby

A competitive race in prospect today and by no means a walkover by any horse.

The two main contenders Marvellous and Taghrooda both whilst being good have something to prove here today.

Group 3 winner Tarfasha looks to have plenty of class but the distance in the worry perhaps for this horse.

Ihtimal looks all class but with her best wins coming on the all-weather in Dubai let’s hope she can put her best foot forward today.

Very interesting race today.

List_of_runners

NUMBER DRAW FORM NAME AGE WEIGHT TRAINER JOCKEY

1 12 7311- Amazing Maria 3 9-0 Ed Dunlop Frankie Dettori
A grey filly whose sire won over 11 furlongs and whose dam won over six furlongs.

Average runs last year over seven and six furlongs on good to firm ground however much better when tried over seven furlongs on good ground winning twice at Goodwood the first being a maiden and the second a fine win in a Group 3 over 7 furlongs on good ground.

2 wins from 4 starts on good ground over seven furlongs.

2 16 24-111 Anipa 3 9-0 Roger Varian Andrea Atzeni
A chestnut filly whose sire won the 2009 Derby and whose dam had a single race over eight furlongs.

A poor two-year-old season has been bettered by an unbeaten three-year-old season. A winner up to listed class but looks well below this level of race and would be a surprise winner despite having won over this distance.

3 wins from 7 starts on ground ranging from good through to standard and up to a distance of 12 furlongs.

3 4 163-13 Dazzling 3 9-0 A P OŽBrien Seamie Heffernan
A bay filly out of Derby winning Galileo and whose dam was a winner over 1 mile.

A reasonable filly who won listed race at Navan but does not look good enough to win this race.

2 wins from 5 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to soft and up to a distance of 10 furlongs.

4 15 73-11 Honor Bound 3 9-0 Ralph Beckett Jim Crowley
A bay filly whose sire won the Derby in 2007 and whose dam won up to 10 furlongs.

A very ordinarily two-year-old campaign was put behind her this season as she is unbeaten. A listed class winner of the Oaks trial at Lingfield but would have to improve considerably to win here today.

2 wins from 4 starts on ground ranging from good through to soft and up to a distance of 11 furlongs
.

5 7 13-113 Ihtimal 3 9-0 Saeed bin Suroor Kieren Fallon
A bay filly whose sire had won over 11 furlongs and whose dam who had a single run over 11 furlongs.

A good filly who won the Group 3 Solera stakes a Group 2 at Doncaster
started this season in Maydan winning the UAE 1000 Guineas over a mile and the UAE Oaks (Group 3) over 10 furlongs, both of these runs on all-weather. Returned to this country and run a good third in the 1000 Guineas.
A good chance here today of running into a place and not without a chance of winning.

4 wins from 9 starts on ground ranging from good to firm through to standard and up to a distance of 10 furlongs.

6 6 23-14 Inchila 3 9-0 Peter Chapple-Hyam Jamie Spencer
A bay filly whose sire won up to 14 furlongs and whose dam won over 12 furlongs.

Nothing in previous form suggests that she should be good enough without considerable improvement of winning today.

One win from 4 starts on good to soft ground over 10 furlongs.

7 14 2213-5 Island Remede 3 9-0 Ed Dunlop James Doyle
A bay filly who on all known form has little chance today.

One win from 9 starts on soft ground over nine furlongs

8 11 123-62 Lily Rules 3 9-0 Tony Coyle Barry McHugh
Brown filly whose sire won over a mile and whose dam run up to a distance of 12 furlongs without winning.

Ordinary two-year-old campaign and average three-year-old campaign so far however last run she was second in the Group 3 Musidora stakes at York. That was a good run but still does not suggest she is good enough to worry the main contenders hare.

2 wins from 10 starts on ground ranging from good through to soft and up to a distance of seven furlong horse.

9 1 1-1 Madame Chiang 3 9-0 David Simcock William Buick
Bay filly whose sire won over 10 furlongs and whose dam won over 12 furlongs.

And unbeaten improving horse and winner of the Musidora stakes at York. Could be anything should not be left out of any serious reckoning and could easily make the frame especially with the booking of William Buick on-board.

2 wins from 2 starts on soft ground up to a distance of 10 furlong
s.

10 5 411 Marsh Daisy 3 9-0 Hughie Morrison Jimmy Fortune
Chestnut filly whose sire won up to a distance of six furlongs. And whose dam who won over 10 furlongs.

A nice horse who has won up to listed company. Has done nothing wrong this year and was unraced as a two-year-old. Difficult to assess how much she should improve and does not look totally out of this race today.

1 win from 4 starts on good to soft ground over 10 furlongs

11 2 1-61 Marvellous 3 9-0 A P OŽBrien Joseph O'Brien
A chestnut filly out of Galileo (a Derby winner).

A good 2-year-old maiden win over eight furlongs was followed up in the Leopardstown 1000 Guineas over seven furlongs at the start of this season by a poor run on soft/heavy ground. A sparklingly better performance in the Irish 1000 Guineas when she won her race by three lengths in good style over a mile.
A worthy favourite who looks like she will get further but will have to improve and prove that she gets this distance..

2 wins from 3 starts on ground ranging from soft through to yielding over a mile
.

12 8 3-3 Momentus 3 9-0 David Simcock Harry Bentley
A bay filly who on all known form should struggled here today in this class of race.

Zero wins from two Starts.

A bay filly whose sire won over six furlongs.

Well tried filly who was second over a mile in the 1000 Guineas trial (Group 3) and to was fifth in the Irish 1000 Guineas.
Not sure to stay this distance and would be a surprise winner.

One win from four starts on soft ground over a mile

14 13 8221-3 Regardez 3 9-0 Ralph Beckett Richard Kingscote
A bay filly who was sire won over 12 furlongs and whose dam won over a mile.

Looks to have plenty to do here today take make the frame even taking into consideration a promising run over 10 furlongs in the Group 3 Musidora where she finished third.

One win from 5 starts over a mile on soft ground.

15 9 1-1 Taghrooda 3 9-0 John Gosden Paul Hanagan

A top class unbeaten filly and winner of the Pretty Polly stakes, a listed race at Newmarket back in May.
Looks smart and should be involved in the finish today.

2 wins from 2 starts on ground ranging from good through to good to firm and up to a distance of 10 furlongs.

16 10 213-1 Tarfasha 3 9-0 D K Weld Pat Smullen
Chestnut filly whose sire won up to a distance of seven furlongs.

A nice filly and winner of a Group 3 at Naas.
Difficult to know if she'll stay this distance but can't be ruled out and has some good form, if a little difficult to assess. Not without a chance of success here today.

2 wins from 4 starts on ground ranging from yielding through to soft and up to a distance of 10 furlongs.

17 17 311-31 Volume 3 9-0 Luca Cumani Richard Hughes
A bay filly whose sire won up to a distance of 10 furlongs and whose dam won over a mile.

3 wins from 5 starts on ground ranging from good through to good to soft and up to a distance of 10 furlongs.
