The Sun Bets Stayers' Hurdle is a Grade 1 championship hurdle race..
The Stayers' Hurdle is the most prestigious 3 mile hurdle race in the whole calendar and is run for long distance hurdlers on the third day of the Cheltenham festival.
First Run in 1972 this is the race that all top class long distance hurdlers are aimed at all season.
The race is open to all horses of the age 4 years and over.
The Stayers hurdle over 3 miles looks the most competitive championship race we have had with plenty in with chances.
Willie Mullins is again having a great festival and he sends Barcardys to the race. He has had a disappointing season so far and fell last time out. A lot to be taken on faith.
Two runs and two wins for Donna’s Diamond. Will act on the ground and beat the smart Agrapart who was very good at Cheltenham the race before. Takes a big step up in class here but is a massive price.
L’Ami Serge is a good horse who loves soft ground. Has a lot in his favour from the best Festival trainer.
Lil Rockafeller ran a cracker to finish 2nd last year. His massive price does not reflect his chance.
Old Guard. Good horse who rarely runs a bad race. The ground may have gone against him and unproven at trip.
Penhill has his season debut in this race. Landed a touch first time out last season here in the novice hurdle. Connections like a punt so any move in price should not be ignored.
Sam Spinner. Many good judges pick for the race and will start short if not fav. Done nothing wrong and from a small stable. Great potential will handle ground and stays this trip. Everything in his favour today and looks the likely winner.
Supersundae, winner of the Irish champion hurdle. Good horse but stamina doubts in this ground.
The New One. Most popular horse in race and could have a good chance now having been upped in trip. Strong chance at a good price.
The Worlds End. Needs to improve and would prefer better ground.
Unowwhatimeanharry. Top class horse who started odds-on for this last year. Good chance and now coming in for support.
Wholestone. Good hurdler, coming into form, will stay and act on ground.
Yanworth. Good horse 7th in last year’s champion hurdle. Gets top jockey Barry Geraghty on board. Sure to run well.
Augusta Kate. Another for the Mullins yard. Will need to show improvement here and has been improving. 2nd last time behind yesterday’s 7l RSA winner Presenting Percy, look good form and could be something of a dark horse.
Colin’s Sister. Recent form not good enough and perhaps would like better ground?
Let’s Dance, significant improvement required and perhaps better ground.

Race 4 - 3:30pm
THE SUN BETS STAYERS' HURDLE RACE (CLASS 1) (Grade 1)
BACARDYS (FR) and PENHILL wore earplugs.
The self certificate for APPLE’S JADE (FR) was not acceptable to the Stewards as it was not made without delay as required by Rule (F)97. A fixed penalty of £500 was imposed on Gordon Elliott as APPLE’S JADE (FR) was declared a non-runner after 9 a.m. on the day of declaration.
Following the race Trevor Whelan reported that LIL ROCKERFELLER (USA), unplaced, had been hampered by a faller at the last. The Veterinary Officer subsequently reported that LIL ROCKERFELLER (USA) lost its left fore shoe. He further reported that AUGUSTA KATE, unplaced, lost her right hind shoe.
