THE 2021 RACE

-----------------------------------

A good renewal of the race and one that always seems to have plenty of entries. At the head of the field is the 2019 winner Paisley Park. He is a really good long-distance hurdler whose form looks solid. but perhaps the betting does not refect the good field we have this year. Sire Du Berlais won the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle at the festival last year and that form looks solid. He has been running well and like many has been laid out for this race. Fury Road had a hiccup in his prep and drying ground would not be in his favour but any rain on the day increases his chances. The Storyteller is the model of consistency. His second in the Pertemps behind Sire Du Berais is good form and he is a course and distance winner should mean he has a live chance. Trainer Kim Bailey has been in the best form for a long time this season and his charge Vindication looks to have a good chance here based on his second to Cyrname in the Charlie hall chase. Back over hurdles could be a dark horse. Last years winner Lisnagar Oscar was overlooked last year and could well be overlooked again. His win has been put down by many as just the failing of the fancied runners but I think he was a worthy winner and his price looks to be a bit of an insult. I suspect another good run and a second win would not be a surprise. Of the other runners, Lil Rockerfella goes well for Bryony Frost and could run well. Flooring Porter is running well this season and his front running style will be set to good use here. We have seen a few horses allowed to get their own way up front this year and then have been difficult to pin back. I think the race is more open than the betting would suggest and although the Fav must be respected I would take Lisnagar Oscar and Sire Du Berlais over the rest of the field.
